Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ)
It was founded on September 07th 1920 with the name University of Rio de Janeiro as the result of a political policy to join three institutions: Medicine College, Polytechnic College and Law College. In 1937, the federal government defines a new structure for the institution, whose name becomes University of Brazil. New colleges, including the National College of Philosophy, Letters (Language and Literature) and Science are created. In 1964, there is another expansion, mainly involving postgraduate studies. The university name becomes Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1965.
